从小就热爱网球的欣瑜几乎是毫不犹豫地选择了网球这条道路，而为了更好地培养女儿，王鹏结束了国家队的执教生涯，为女儿组建了专业的国际化团队。相比中国同年龄段的球员，王欣瑜的团队配置堪称豪华：除了父亲王鹏，她的团队还包括一名曾经获得大学生运动会男单冠军的塞尔维亚教练、一位克罗地亚体能师和一名来自南京的康复师。完善的团队无疑能让王欣瑜在职业道路上少走很多弯路。

广东省体育局打破常规的联合培养模式也让王欣瑜获益匪浅。2017年5月，广东省二沙体育训练中心、深圳市体工大队、深圳市网球协会三方共建的广东省深圳市网球队正式成立，而这支队伍最核心的球员就是王欣瑜。这样的模式突破了以往队员集中训练和比赛的常规，球员既能获得整合后的各方资源，又能拥有自主安排的主动权，可以说，王欣瑜是赶上了“最好的时代”。

去年底进行的2018年澳网亚太区外卡赛是这朵小小花第一次绽放。在女单决赛中，当时世界排名仅763位的王欣瑜逆转击败巴布亚新几内亚球员阿皮萨，爆冷夺冠。这个冠军让王欣瑜收获了一张宝贵的澳网正赛外卡，成为中国第一位出战大满贯正赛的00后球员。在澳网开赛前两天，她还一直保持着本届澳网最年轻球员的纪录，直到15岁零6个月的乌克兰小将科斯丘克从资格赛中突围。在90后这批“小花”迟迟未成气候的情况下，王欣瑜的横空出世让中国球迷看到了金花军团的新希望。

相比较成人组的不适应，王欣瑜在青少年赛场更加如鱼得水。在澳网青少年组的比赛中，王欣瑜单打打进了四强，双打则搭档中国台北选手梁恩硕夺得了冠军，双线刷新了自己青少年组的最好成绩。王欣瑜与梁恩硕是2016年10月开始组对的，两人搭档参加了去年澳网、法网和美网的青少年赛，王欣瑜打法积极但容易急躁，梁恩硕冷静却慢热，两人一个身高腿长，一个则较为矮小，从体型、打法到性格都形成互补，配合效果不错，关系也很好。王鹏说：“她们经常相互鼓励，这是她们搭档的优势。”而王欣瑜则透露，自己在女单半决赛输球后，准备双打时梁恩硕还一直安慰自己：“后来比赛延期，双打决赛就调整得好些了。谢谢恩硕对我的鼓励，在我失误时没有嫌弃我。”
