1964年10月12日，范明出生在江苏省徐州市鼓楼区的一个军人家庭，祖籍山东临沂，从小爱好唱歌跳舞，高中毕业后进入徐州市电解化工厂当上了一名工人。

On October 12, 1964, fan Ming was born in a military family in Gulou District, Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province. His ancestral home was Linyi, Shandong Province. He loved singing and dancing since childhood. After graduating from high school, he became a worker in Xuzhou electrolytic chemical plant.

1985年，范明进入江苏省连云港军分区业余演出队。他利用空闲时间学了编导，导了一些小品。1989年，进入江苏南京军区前线话剧团。

1995年，参演首部电视作品《七战七捷》。2003年，凭借情景喜剧《炊事班的故事》中的副班长“老高”一角，获得第十六届金星奖最佳男演员奖。

2020年8月13日，大型历史文化探秘剧《昆仑·丝路宝藏》正式官宣了主演阵容，范明、薛皓文、刘迪妮、宋撼寰等联合主演。8月28日，该剧在横店影视城顺利开机。
